General Program Information

Mission Statement: The CAT program provides specialized training leading directly to employment and also allow employed individuals to retrain or update skills for promotion. Major goals include the provision of

  • training for business, clerical, and administrative/executive careers
  • soft skills training required for hire
  • retraining for skills refresh and/or promotion

Program Certificates: The CAT program offers seven certificates. Three of which "stack" and ar a part of a larger certificate, Executive Office Management. This certificate may be obtained by completing the short–term Office Assistant, Administrative Office Professional, and Executive Office Professional certificates listed below. It is suggested that each of these smaller occupational certificates be completed in the recommended order. The skills obtained in the recommended order generally build to from basic to advanced-level skills.

Business Information Worker Certificate Program: The Business Information Worker Certificate of Achievement is a California Community College Chancellor's Office branded pathway designed to provide students with practical, career-oriented skills for professional office environments using current industry technologies. Students receive hands-on experience in the fundamentals of business communications and human relations in addition to the basics of keyboarding, the Windows environment, Word, Excel, and Outlook, and introductory computer information systems concepts. In addition, students are introduced to, and guided through, job search, resume writing and interview skills specific to the entry-level positions in a variety of office environments.

Legal Administrative Professional Program: The City College campus is located just minutes from the downtown courthouse and legal community. The Legal Administrative Professional Certificate program, comprised of 4 classes offered online or in the evening, is geared toward quick skills acquisition needed for employment or updated training in the legal clerical field in just 2 semesters.

Online Courses: Several CAT program courses are offered online and in hybrid modes. This Web-dependent delivery method reflects the needs of the local labor market and has the support of local employers who serve on our advisory committee.

Certificates and Graduation: Certificate and graduation requirements apply to students enrolled for the school year catalog when they began from the time they began attendance of 1 semester for each academic year.
